Consider the artist’s time, materials, artwork dimensions and framing when comparing prices.
So let's break down where the money actually goes — because “expensive” and “overpriced” are not the same thing.
1. You're paying for time, and a lot of it
The price can reflect the work involved in applying paint, building the composition and allowing the painting to dry before final checks. Compare pieces of similar dimensions and finish rather than judging the price from a thumbnail alone.
2. Consider the artist’s technique
Color mixing, composition and control of raised paint contribute to a painting’s appearance. Look at clear surface details and ask about the process; a higher price alone does not establish an artist’s experience or the quality of a work.
3. Real materials cost real money
Check the stated paint medium, support and frame when comparing prices. For an explanation of raised paint, see impasto

Rosemary Art’s current painted canvases use acrylic paint on linen. HM#0521 is a wood-relief exception. Frame choices are listed with each product; compare those actual specifications rather than assuming a price proves a particular material grade.
So when is it actually worth it?
Decide what matters to you: the composition, physical texture, size, frame and the way the piece fits your room. Our related buying guide offers another perspective: our guide to artist-made art
How does a physical painting differ from a digital image?
A digital image shows a view of an artwork; a physical painting also has a surface, edges and dimensions you can inspect. Choose the qualities you value for your room. The presence of texture or handwork does not by itself establish a future resale price.
FAQ
Is more expensive art always better?
No. Price should reflect genuine handwork, size, and materials — not hype. Always check that a piece is truly hand-painted and signed by the artist.
How long does a hand-painted painting take?
At Rosemary Art, standard creation is estimated at 4–8 business days after your requirements are confirmed. Large, highly textured, custom or multi-piece orders may need longer. Finished photos and packing depend on actual drying and quality checks; this production estimate is separate from delivery time.
